of the bay area not so much. paul deanno chief meteorologist put these graphics together and boy, they do tell the story. homes that's in the gulf of alaska is picking up subtropical moisture and you get some good energy in this whenever you combine a cold low out of the gulf with this warm subtropical stream. that's why tomorrow it wouldn't be a surprise if we were to see a few thunderstorms around the bay area, as well. so lightning would not be out of the question when it all arrives tomorrow morning. we'll get a bead on the timing in a minute. it also has implications for tahoe which has forecast highs tomorrow in the low 40s. winter weather advisories are posted all day tomorrow. snow level down to 7,000 feet. we'll get up to 8" of snow from this and southerly winds in the mountains to 60 miles an hour. this is the model that shows how the atmosphere should behave so this is today, clouds, clouds, clouds. this is about midnight. now, watch, bang! right about 6 a.m. and again a second wave comes in about 9:00 to noon tomorrow. after that, we get this, clearing behind all of it by the

people's attention. chief meteorologist paul deanno is in the weather center keeping an eye on it. >> even though we said it was coming and told people it would be chilly and wet, it was abrupt. we got wet and cold quickly. here's where we are on hi-def doppler. strong els radar in the bay area picking up some showers in the south bay. milpitas, san jose, north of palo alto, mountain view with heavier showers toward the los altos hills. one heavier cell daly city, south san francisco in the next 20 minutes just now moving onshore. the rain is widespread, cold is everywhere. 53 now for concord. san jose 53. san francisco 54. on monday in san jose, a record high of 84 degrees. today in san jose, we dropped nearly 30 degrees all the way down to the mid-50s. coming up in weather i'll talk about how long this will stick around the rain and the cold and have a weekend preview coming up. >>> a powerful november nor'easter delivered another blow to the northeast. the storm pounded the area with rain, snow and winds gusting up to 60 miles an hour. and it has caused more than $200,000 in ad

's get to chief meteorologist paul deanno who is draking this storm. >> and there is now a lot to track. we're seeing a lot of activity just to the north of the golden gate and anywhere north and west of interstate 80. look at the radar, see how active it is. clear lake pouring, hidden valley lake, pouring, santa rosa, north up to clover dale, it is pouring. that's nevada nevada and the bay. south of the golden gate is not getting heavy rain fall. all of that heavy rain is creeping slowly to the south. it's going to be a wet day all day tomorrow, windy at times with rough surf. the national weather service has issued a flash flood watch for the coastline and all moint nous areas and the north bay and wand advisory is in effect for tomorrow morning. this is just in, look at this future cast, by 5:00 sunday, total rain fall there is not one part of the bay area that will receive less than three inches of rain. the rain will be pouring o over the next three days. . >> all right paul, thanks. north bay, that's where it's happening, elizabeth cook is getting drenched. >> that's right, all

headed our way. first, paul deanno. >> one down, two to go. the next two are gonna be the big ones. a lot of rainfall heading our way, but not tonight. here is our high-def doppler. can't find a drop of rainfall. here's what to expect. we will be rain-free all the way through tomorrow afternoon. but then here comes the heavy stuff. the heavy stuff will arrive from the north and we'll all be tapping into that heavy rainfall by friday morning. look at these rainfall totals. that yellow color you see in the north bay, that's five inches of rain by saturday evening. that's only round no. 2. we still have round no. 3 after that. total rainfall? we're talking 6 to 9 inches in portions of sonoma county. 5 to 9 inches for marin and alameda, including oakland. 3 to 6 inches of rain by sunday. we'll talk about when the sunshine is going to come back, coming up in just a few minutes. >>> elizabeth cook is in the part of the bay area that was the wettest today. liz? >> reporter: dana, i'm in marin county where today the area got between one and two inches of rain. we're equating the series of storms

. >> i'm allen martin. ken bastida has the night off. so let's get right to chief meteorologist paul deanno who is tracking the storm on cbs 5 hi-def doppler. >> we've been talking about this rainfall since thanksgiving. we've known it's been coming for about seven days. tonight, it's finally here. the heavy rainfall has arrived. now enveloping just about all of the bay area. check it out. from clear lake, south to cloverdale, napa, vacaville, all now getting a steady soaking rainfall. the 680 corridor, also tapping into the rain, all the way down the pleasanton. look at all that rain, due west of san francisco. san mateo, half moon bay, it will be pouring in the city within the hour. the heaviest rainfall still to the north. it's creeping to the south, though, and tomorrow is going to be a washout, wet all day, windy as well at times, with rough surf and a slight thunderstorm chance. that's it. flash flood watch is in effect for the coast, for the north bay and for the mountains through monday. that's an update. there will be widespread ponding on the roads and urban flooding. wind

. as the holiday travel rush heats up the rain is coming down. chief meteorologist paul deanno tracking the storm for us. >> we'll talk more about the commute than we'll talk about "that." we have a lot of rainfall out there on the peninsula. high-def doppler radar. first time lapse mode shows you all the moisture piling in from the pacific. now a little tighter and show you the live radar the actual sweep and where the radar and the rain is as of this second. it's a soggy drive on 101 from santa rosa to novato. north all the way up to cloverdale and healdsburg and we're also wet in napa county. we're wet in san francisco and right across the golden gate bridge sausalito and tiburon now enjoying some rainfall, as well. take a look at the rainfall disparity. our computer predicts 10 times as much rainfall in san rafael than compared to san jose. so farther north the more rain you will receive. wait until you see how much sunshine i have in the forecast. that's coming up in about 10 minutes. >>> in the headlines, the pilot of a small plane walked away from from this crash around the san rafael airp

. >>> paul deanno with a forecast we can be thankful for. >> there are a lot of reasons to be thankful this year. the forecast is one of them especially after the rainfall the last couple of days. i'll show you the rainfall totals in a second. skies clearing over the bay area now. what a wet night it was. i just saw that story about all the stormwater causing issues at ocean beach. on inch of rain in san francisco, lafayette 1.25", yountville 1.33 inches. hi-def doppler is now dry. the south bay you saw the least amount of rain lasting until mid-morning. i'm going to let the cat out of the bag. your forecast tomorrow perfect, mainly sunny, mild with mid- to upper 60s. what a gorgeous thanksgiving we're going to v now, something has to be changing, tahoe with a wind gust overnight of 100 miles per hour. that's how strong that front was. it's off to the south and east. high pressure will shove the storm track to the north. it will keep raining in seattle, vancouver, portland and eugene but not for us. high pressure not moving so we'll stay dry and mild into next week. highs tomorrow will

make it an interesting chess game to watch. in oakland, john ramos cbs 5. >>> weather time. paul deanno with your forecast. and this type of system coming in from the north and west is exactly what hi-def doppler can see better than any other radar in town. you can see it just lit up over sonoma county, marin countiful you're getting the rain first and ever so slowly it's creeping toward the peninsula. let's check a couple of hot spots between napa and vallejo a heavy shower lifting northeast impacting vacaville likely before 7:15 tonight. if you are in the santa clara valley like cupertino, sunnyvale, you're the farthest from the rain and kids there will likely stay dry because you will get the rain last. here's what's happening. big low pressure system off the western washington-western oregon coastline bringing record rainfall to seattle and portland and medford, oregon. we are going to get tail end of it which will give us a half inch of rain. it's arriving right now and likely sticking around until midday tomorrow. it will be a steady soaking rain. your grass will have some puddles

more of that unstable hillside. but so far, so good. chief meteorologist paul deanno now with what we can expect over the weekend. >> this is only the appetizer. the main course is going to be moving through this evening. look at this radar and the color on the radar and hi-def doppler right now in the bay area just offshore. all of this rain is moving from the southwest to the northeast which means a lot of this that's offshore will be in your backyard soon. petaluma, fairfax, novato, mill valley heavy rain and all of that yellow and orange has its sights set on daly city south san francisco and the city of san francisco. contrast that with the south bay. all the moisture being blocked by the santa cruz mountains, those areas are dry. a very wet picture between now and 1 a.m. staying north of the golden gate an inch of rain that's a lot of rain in short amount of time so rain will become more intense through the evening. we'll have more coming up. >>> apple stock is taking

in some spots. and that's just the half of it. we are also in for some wild wind. chief meteorologist paul deanno is tracking the storm for us. >> that wind will actually be first as soon as tomorrow morning many of you waking up to the sound of the gusty winds outside but the big event will be this rainfall. flooding rainfall is now very likely for much of the bay area. several straight days of rainfall with the heaviest of the rain not getting here until friday so what's first up, weather-wise here, will be the wind and rain that arrive tonight. now, this rain is not going to be enough to cause flooding, but this wind is going to cause a rough morning commute. 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. tomorrow morning, wind advisory in effect. all of us will see wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour, winds stronger higher hilltops at the coasts up to 60 miles per hour maybek a mess of the morning commute. -- making a mess of the morning commute. hi-def doppler not tracking any rainfall yet. rain and wind still several hours away. there is an atmospheric river of moisture that's out in the pacific and it's going to

meteorologist paul deanno with what we'll get hit with next. >> it's all going to be about the cold. rain moves on the and cold air is coming in, colder tonight than this morning. april 8th the last time we were below 41 degrees in oakland. these are your lows tonight. this is what you will get up to tomorrow morning if you walk the dog early. 35, 35 degrees in santa rosa. napa 35. fremont 43. even downtown san francisco dropping down to 45. so temperatures becoming more of an issue as rain becomes less of an issue. just a few showers offshore right now and that's it. we did have stuff falling from the sky earlier this morning and in some select spots, it was snow. one of those spots mount diablo. that's where roberta gonzales is live tonight. good afternoon. >> reporter: hi, paul. official sundown is at 5:02. it's occurring behind me as we speak. i'm at 2900 feet atop mount diablo tonight. this is where we saw light snow this morning according to chopper 5 this morning high in the sky. since then the snow has allowed to melt as the temperature here actually did top off right around 40 degrees.
